Google Fonts not loading locally

Hi,
I have an old site that’s currently using a custom child theme for virtue premium 2.5.6. In the process to upgrade it to the latest version I’ve ported it from the online site to a local dev site running under MAMP. I’ve got it up and running locally now but have noticed that none of the google fonts used in the menus are loading. They’re working fine on the online site but not the local site. I’ve checked the font settings in the theme options for the menus and typography and both the online and local site are set to use the google font Gentium Basic but the local site appears to be displaying Times instead.
Is there anything special I need to do to run locally to load the google fonts used in the theme?
