Having trouble with a child theme

We created a child theme, then activated it.
The top widget and the footer widgets appeared in duplicates, even after I re-activated Virtue theme. (I removed the duplicates since this is a live site)

When I try to Preview the child theme it give me this error:
Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/lasallia/public_html/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce-extra-product-sorting-options/woocommerce-extra-product-sorting-options.php on line 178

Edited: I actually update all plugins and the error went away. I was doubting myself on creating the child theme…
Do you have a plugin that we could use to create a child theme?
