Home Page Layout filtered product section help

I would like to set up links on our home page to specific product category(s). Something similar to what is on your theme demo home page, where you currently have the icon menu section between the top slider and the Featured Product carousel. But instead of the icon menu it would be a section of, let’s say three image/boxes, possibly labeled “brand A”, “brand B”, “brand C”. Clicking on one of those boxes would bring you to a grouping of product of just that choice. This selection could be filtered on either product categories or product tags. Looking at the choices on the Home Page Layout Manager I wasn’t able to see something that would allow this, but of course, it could be right in front of me and I’m missing it. Suggestions?
