Hover text over static image: how to question; alignment question

Hi,
2) How do I hover text over a static image? I notice that the kadence slider functionality let’s me add static text over an image which is a nice feature but not quite what I want. *Login to see link Do I need a plug-in or is there some CSS that I could apply?

2) I have three images in a row on the home page. Is there a way to ensure that when the screen size changes that the images are either displayed as three across or centered as vertically one down. At certain breakpoints, I view one across and in the next row two images across. The breakup looks sloppy. The images are sized 1200 x 1200 each.
