How to add borders to images in page builder?

Hi Ben / Hannah,
Have tried unsuccessfully to add a white border (and ideally a drop shadow) to images housed in a virtue: image widget and virtue:image menu widget within a page builder layout. Have tried a couple of 3rd party widgets that are meant to automate the process but with only very limited success (added it to posts only).
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
