More-Than and Less-Than Characters Not Working in Contact Form

I am trying to send the following message through the contact form in my website (www.sbcreativecontent.com):

This is a sample test message using special characters:

Can you watch <5 dogs and >3 cats? I’m looking for a regular pet sitter for my zoo.

Thanks!

However, when the message comes through to my email, it looks like this:

Comments:This is a sample test message using special characters:

Can you watch 3 cats? I’m looking for a regular pet sitter for my zoo.

Thanks!

Is it normal that any thing contained between the more-than and less-than signs doesn’t come through the contact form?

I am testing this for a client who is experiencing the same issue.
