Problem with recent posts widget

We are using Child theme for this site *Login to see link site/PLG/firms/country/argentina/ and have a custom template layout to display posts for taxonomy ‘country’.
The problem is that the Ascend Recent Posts footer widget does not work correctly when this template loads – instead of displaying the specified 3 posts, it displays them all and in reverse date order.
We have tried to find a workaround but there appears to be a bug and we are completely stumped.
