Space under my catalog images

Hello,
I don’t seem to get rid of the white space between my product images and the product title:

When I disable Product Image Aspect Ratio on Catalog pages, the flip function stops working, so that’s not an option.
The images should be large enough to fill the the 411px wide/high space, but they remain 300×300. Regenrating thumbnails doesn’t seem to help.
When switching to to e.g. 3-column lay out, it’s fine, but I prefer the 2 colums lay-out.
Could you help?
