I have a small business where I teach seniors how to create a family history website. The most frequent question is? “What theme should I use?”
My answer is Kadence. I would like to teach them how to get started with a Starter Theme, but I can’t find what I consider a “match.” Why?
Most seem to have a business focus, even the ones (one?) for blogging
Another focus is portfolios, photography
I think an audience you are missing can be described as:
people who blog for reasons other than to drive traffic to make a sale
the blog post IS the product, and it is free
these people are storytellers – this is what they want to do
many are currently blogger.com users who want to up their game
many have never created a website before
My audience falls in this category. Their “content pillars”?
tell stories about their families
post pictorial content about family heirlooms
provide guides related to family history</la
Another group is societies. Their “content pillars”?
strong non-commercial focus on “who we are”
archived news letters
resource libraries (PDFs, images, articles
events
I recognize you can’t be everything to everybody. I think a few Starter templates targeting these kinds of sites would balance your portfolio. I admit my ask is somewhat selfish – I want to find a starter template I can use to teach this audience.
If you think I am missing something, let me know, but I have reviewed them all and can’t find a round peg for my round hole
