styling captions sitewide

Please excuse another question about something that seems like it should be obvious but….
Many/most but not all of the images on my site have captions. In my previous theme, I was able to style the captions so they were always in a smaller font size, italicized, and centered under the photo. When I switched to Kadence, all my captions came up using the exact same font/size/not italic as my body copy text. Now I can’t find any way to style them sitewide so they will always show up automatically the way I want them to.
I can’t be the only one who wants to do this, and it certainly seems like it should be an option in the general typography styling customization. But apparently it is not… or if so, I can’t find it.
So how can I style my captions to look the way I want them to, always?
