top bar on mobile – feature coming soon??

In reference to the above forum topic it looks like only the icons can appear in the top bar mobile view. On several sites the top bar holds vital information that we do not want buried in the hamburger navigation for mobile. In some cases it a phone number or link to directions, or a donation button for a not for profit, cart or my account, etc.
Is it possible that more than icons can be added to the mobile top bar in the future? If so, what sort of time frame would be realistic?
Seems like this is important to a variety of people. For my group, it’s beginning to turn into a deal breaker. In that, more and more that area is being used in design and the number of times that area not being available in mobile is an issue is also growing along with the increased use of mobile usage in general.
