Updating image in virtue: image menu item

Hello!
I am having trouble updating my “virtue: image menu item” located on my front page. it is uploaded and I click “update” page, receive a oddly formatted homepage (I have a shot to send if I can) showing the new image, however when I load the site directly by clicking home or typing the url, the old image is shown. No changes. I go back to the editor and the new image is gone. This is happening over and over, very hard to get my edits to save/register.
Any advice?
