updating to 3.9.7. crashed my site

I updated from 3.9.6. to 3.9.7. and although I could see the dashboard, the public url only showed a blank page. Site worked fine on a default theme. I deleted the theme and re-installed 3.9.6. so ok for now. Any suggestions as to why this happened? Managed wordpress hosting with godaddy: http://www.jccmw.org
