Virtue Child Theme trashed by recent WP update

This is just for your information and completely new to me. Using the free theme for this site, it’s only one page. I always use a child theme, regardless of the size of the site. When I updated to the latest WP version yesterday AND updated VIRTUE, the home (one) page lost all its functionality. It was laid out with short codes, very simple, small slider, spoiler drop down content, animated contact box. I put the site into Maintenance mode over night and found out today that the child theme was the problem. When I temporarily checked functionality with the main theme the page worked as it should. As soon as I created a new child theme and activated that, the thing worked again. No response necessary, but I thought I’d post this very unusual thing.
