Hey Everyone,
WordPress releases a major update version 5.0 on Thursday, December 6th. This Update includes a new editor called “Gutenberg” that is sure to change the way you work and use WordPress.

You can read some of our posts about that here:

Now to try and get ahead of some questions I’ve written out some question answers to hopefully help you navigate this update.

1. “Is Kadence Themes ready for this?”

Yes, we’ve been looking forward to it and building for it with our new Kadence Blocks Plugin

2. “Should I update to WordPress 5.0 right away?”

While you certainly can, and if you are starting a new project I think the pros of using the Gutenberg editor are worth jumping right it. I don’t really suggest it for production sites that are already built and running. This update doesn’t have big security patches it’s really about the new editor so waiting a week or two before you update just gives plugin developers and core developers more time to weed out unforeseen issues.

If you have been using a Pagebuilder like Siteorigin then I suggest installing this plugin before updating:

That plugin will allow you to access your content in the same editor you’ve always had as well as in Gutenberg.

3. I built my site using a PageBuilder will it break when I update?

In general no, but there could be exceptions based on which plugin you are using. I suggest installing and then you can always access your content in the editor you are used to while you also can experiment with the new editor.

4. I’m willing to try the new editor but I want to have quick access to the old editor
By installing the there is a new option in the settings that allows you to make the classic editor the default or make the new Block editor the default but also provide links for the classic editor. You can access these settings at settings > writing in your admin.

Then for your post and page settings, you can choose how you want to edit.
