In reply to: Confused about Versions
Hi Ben,
So I updated to Premium ver.1.9.3 on the 15th, but now notice you are on ver. 1.9.8. What has changed? Perhaps it would be helpful for you to post a sticky at the top of this forum with update info and a list of changes, so we have a quick place to stay current? Right now the only way I see to find out about updates is to check the version on your “home” page.
Also wondering, I am using the Premium Child theme as my active, but I have made some changes to Theme Functions file (functions.php). Are these changes saved whenever I update to the current Premium version?
Thanks! In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Child Theme

December 19, 2013 at 10:28 am #2655You don’t need the @import.
By the primary menu is missing do you mean there isn’t an option on the menus page?
When you activate a child theme your widgets and menus won’t be set.

In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Woocommerce Related Products
Hi Ben,
I noticed in 1.9.4 that the related products where not being pulled from the same category as the product on the page.
I know woocommerce related products are far from perfect but I had got them working for me in previous versions.
I’ve just updated to 1.9.7 and now the related products section is just blank. The area is present with the slider but no products are shown.
This is the case in both the vanilla Virtue Premium theme and my edited child theme. If I drop back to the free version 1.5.4 it all works as expected.
I’m guessing this forum is the best way to report this type of bug?
Hopefully you can fix this in the v2 release.
Many thanks
Steve
In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Child Theme
Hi Ben,
today a started to build a child theme because I will have to make some customizing on the design and especially on the woocommerce emails.
So I created this folder /WordPress/wp-content/themes/virtue_premium_child and put a style.css inside which says:/**
* Theme Name: virtue_premium_child
* Template: virtue_premium
*/@import url(‘http.//OOO.de/WordPress/wp-content/themes/virtue_premium/style.css’);
After activating my child theme I saw that the primary menu is missing.
What can I do to get it back?Best regards, Martin

December 18, 2013 at 12:30 pm #2634Hey Dan,
1. Are both sites using the latest versions of the theme? Css in the custom css box should work.
Child theme shouldn’t matter.2. The file is really the wrong word. I’ll talk to the redux guys about it but it should be code. And you can copy it from an export file you downloaded. Either way you just paste the export code into that text field and click import.

HI,
have some questions concerning import/export..
1. I exported and imported from one website to another, but it seems a lot of the CSS is not copied over…also footer settings etc
now i use a child theme in one (export) and the main theme on the other site…can that play any role?2. How does import from file work? I cannot enter a file on my computer, but get a huge text field?
Thx
Dan

Don’t really know what happened. I think possibly I downloaded the child theme a 2nd time and it got named “child-theme 2”. Went into control panel on the server and deleted that folder, then reinstalled the parent 1.9.3 theme, and the child theme now shows up in the wordpress dashboard, which I then activated. That left me with two copies of the premium 1.9.3 theme. Deleted one, and all seems fine. I think!
Thanks. In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Confused about Versions
December 15, 2013 at 9:01 am #2541Hey David,
Sounds like you installed the new version but didn’t use the “virtue_premium” folder name. That is important for a child theme. Also with this version remember that the css framework changed, if you are using any template files you need to update them or they may not work.

HI David,
just upgraded myself and had these questions, so perhaps can be of some help…
when you go to Design->Themes, what themes come up?
From the error message above I would say no parent theme (1.9.3) is installed?
I had to delete the old parent theme, otherwise got an error on installtion. Then I installed the 1.9.3 and then made the child (unchanged) the active theme again.
Does this help?
Thx
Dan

Hi Ben,
Ok, so I updated the theme to 1.9.3, but seem to have lost the child theme. When trying to reinstall the child, I get the broken theme message:Virtue – Premium Child The parent theme is missing. Please install the “virtue_premium” parent theme.
Virtue – Premium Child The parent theme is missing. Please install the “virtue_premium” parent theme.Currently, the active theme is Virtue Premium 1.9.3 (without some of my modifications I had done in the child).
Thanks (again!)
Dave
PS. I guess I probably should have waited for the 2.0 release, huh?In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Confused about Versions
December 15, 2013 at 12:00 am #2520Hey,
So first let me say I jumped from 1.8.3 to 1.9.3 in 12 hours. I got call it part one of a push to version 2. This push has the new bootstrap css and js framework. Which required updates in every file. It also opened the door for better layouts and some of the new enhancements that are coming.Step two of this which will get the version to 2.0 is close and will likely come out tues this week. It’s going to have a new slider and some more shortcodes and some more category and product options.
With version 2, I am toying with adding a update notifier into the theme. I’ve used one in the past and had issues with it, so I might start doing email notifications but the goal has been to get to version 2 then make sure everyone knows about the update.
As for the child theme version, that means nothing. I’m about to write up a tutorial one using a child theme and moving the download to that tutorial.
Hope the helps clear some things up.

BenIn forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Confused about Versions
I’m a bit confused about current versions. We purchased/installed Virtue Premium approx. a week or so ago, and notice that it is ver. 1.8.3. I have the child theme installed, and it is ver. 1.4.1. But I see that the current ver. seems to be 1.9.3. Has there already been an update I missed, that I should install? Is there no system for update notifications?
Thanks! In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Child Theme
December 12, 2013 at 8:17 am #2414Yes I agree it’s on my list to do right after I kick out the next version.

In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Reduce Excerpt text length
Hi Ben,
I’m showing two blog posts on the home page but as some posts titles are quite long the height of the two boxes varies.
I know this has come up before but rather than increase the box height I’d like to reduce the excerpt text count so the boxes stay the same height as the thumbnail images (270px?). The post titles are more relevant on the home page than the body of the text.
I tried using a bit of code in my child themes functions.php to set a new excerpt_length but this does not appear to work. I understand this can be theme related so thought I’d better ask you if it can be done?
Many thanks for your help
Steve
