In reply to: Customize the second header menue
March 19, 2014 at 6:32 pm #64064. Honestly you shouldn’t it’s highly highly un-user friendly. It of course can be done but I strongly urge you to think about your users. Menus that deep are very hard to navigate, you should be linking to pages with sidebar menus the don’t appear and disappear if you need navigation that long.

In forum: Virtue ThemeHi Ben,
I’ve combed through the virtue theme css code and it’s a bit over my head, so I’m going right to the source.
Is there a way to disable or customize some of the responsive effects based on width?
For instance, I’m happy with the way the responsiveness and mobile menu bar behave at 0 to 767px.
I am not happy with in between 768px and 987px.
I am most happy with the way it looks between 988px and 1175px and would actually prefer not to go to the final level of maximum width.I guess another way to put it is I’d love to fix the width of the site with sidebar(s) at a certain width between 988 and 1175 and only have it be responsive with the mobile menu bar on phones and tablets.
Am I making any sense? I can’t send you a link, but I could send you screen shots if that would help.
Thanks,
DominicP.S. Numbers are approximate, I used measureIt on firefox to figure out the widths mentioned above. I’m hoping they’ll be close enough to the @media widths you use in your css to figure out which code can be edited, if any can be.
In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Full-width pages
Hi,
We would like some of our pages to appear full-width, i.e. without any sidebar.
So how do you choose whether a page should have a sidebar or not?
Currently we use the template “Feature” to create pages without a sidebar, but this often creates problems because that template causes a slider to appear at the top of the page.
Thanks,
MadsIn forum: Virtue ThemeJust to take this a step further, now that I have gotten rid of the Woomcommerce product sort, I would like to have a filter for “brand” on the category pages. I currently am tagging each product with it’s brand. Those show nicely on each product’s detail page – clicking the tag shows all of that brand’s product. But I would like the filter to be available on the Category Pages (My Categories are “Men, Women and then with sub-categories of outerwear, shoes, etc.). I know I can have a tag cloud in a sidebar or footer, but that’s not really the look I’m after. Perhaps tags are not the right way to do this? On the sample page you included above, I see you have that Ajax filter on the side bar for “men, women, all). That’s more what I am looking for. Is that using the Ajax filter plug-in for attributes? Perhaps I should be using Attributes for brands instead of tags? Or, is there a widget (or plug0n( available you may know of to have a tag filter in a sidebar?

(oh, and feel free to move if perhaps this question should be in it’s own new topic!)

March 3, 2014 at 12:36 pm #5601You mean you want a sidebar? with links on the left?
The layout is a grid you can’t just stick a menu into it, I’m not confused at what you are asking. But it seems you want the menu to be beside the grid which can’t really be done.

In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Use free space beside the Slide Image
March 3, 2014 at 11:25 am #5589Ok guess I need to be clearer,
1. The Thumb slider is designed to be full width, it’s not in the page content area, it sits above it. There is no way to bring the slider left and have the sidebar come up beside it.
What you can do it create a slider using the revolution slider and add the shortcode for the slider to your page content, that will keep it left with the sidebar beside it.
2. You can’t add links to the thumbnails on the slider as they are navigation for the slider, when you click on it shows that slide. The custom links only apply to the slide.
Hope that clears things up.

In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Use free space beside the Slide Image
Okay, I will look into this. Thanks. I´am looking into to use some of the free space beneath the Thumb Slider Image and the Page and my category Sidebars. How do I move the “Vare Kategori” up and the page section up. Is it possible to go back in the Theme code and reduce the free-space there.?
In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: All theme options suddenly reseted
Strange indeed. I uninstalled WooCommerce, optimised and repaired the database (options.php was one of those in need) but php.ini I cannot fix cause I’m on a hosted server. I have sent a ticket which will be executed on Monday earliest, it’s Friday night here already.
I’m pulling everything together again and hoping the best, wish me luck.
Oh, the sidebars were club, customers and products – did not use any spaces nor scandinavian characters in the names.
I’ll let you know if I still need assistance 🙂

February 28, 2014 at 10:47 am #5411This is strange the first thing I would adjust is in your php.ini, make sure you increase the memory timeout limit. If your server is timing out when trying to save options then it could run an error that would cause the database table to error.. shouldn’t though… Next I would run a repair on your database. (it’s good to do often anyway).
And last question (i don’t think this matters but good to check) what were you typing in as name of your extra sidebars?

In forum: Virtue ThemeHi Ben,
it happened again – suddenly my custom settings in Theme options were reseted to default, the same thing that I reported a few days ago. Now I was able to trace my actions: I created a new custom sidebar in Misc settings and saved my changes. The browser started to refresh but halted, in the url field there was /wp-admin/options.php – I waited for a minute or so and faced a 500 system error. Refreshed the browser and landed to /wp-admin/options.php view – went back to Theme options and goosh all my custom tweaks were reseted. I made all the changes back (had a back up but to enough recent).
I was away for an hour and came back, went to Misc settings, saved though I had not made any changes and it froze again – the same happened again! Now I’m again in default mode e.g. top bar visible (custom no top bar), custom colours from menus gone, font tweaks reseted, shop page 4 columns (custom 5), google id gone, favicon gone, language settings gone etc
You mentioned that similar may happen when there are two admin views open in browser and you jump from one to another – that is not the case here.
Any idea what might be causing this? Need to get rid of this asap, launching the store on Monday…
Thanks, Hannu
In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: ul sidebar nav menu
Where is styling for ul vertical menu (sidebar?) ul/ol custom css is not applying. I can handle the code, but it’s not applying from your customer css box (no assignment)
Goal: child-items: NO disc, -em ,
Space after parent sets, and bold parent link)<Disc>Parent

In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Blog preview with image on the left
February 24, 2014 at 10:29 am #5129Are you using a sidebar on your home page? If so then because of the space the image jumps to the top on two columns, which to one column for the style you want.

In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Topbar search box
Hi Ben
Since I updated my website (*Login to see link using Virtue Premium I have lots of really positive feedback from visitors but also a couple of grumbles. One concerns the topbar search box. The image I am using in the topbar is quite strongly coloured. The magnifying glass icon shows up clearly against it, but the box itself (and the word ‘Search’) is difficult to see. I don’t want to change my image, so is it feasible to increase the level of opacity of the box instead? If not I will put the search in the sidebar instead, but as I have several different sidebars I would rather use the topbar if possible.
Thanks
Cally
In forum: Virtue ThemeHello nice Ben, My front blog PAGE (not my Home or my FrontPage) has No Sidebar – as planned, good.
I want my subsequent clickers (ReadMore, Categories, Archives) to have a sidebar that sits on the right side of page.
At present, I can see the sidebar but it’s floating below the page content, not next to it like a proper sidebar. My front blog page is a Page not a Post, with PageAttribute/Template: Blog And below on BlogListOptions – Display Sidebar? it’s No.
Surely there’s a ‘global’ way to tell the clickers (ReadMore, Categories and Archives) to display the sidebar and let it sit on the right.
Still would like to learn how to tell which page calls which template. (Plus whether I’d get into trouble if I attempt to edit those template php files.) I would think ReadMore is single.php, Archives is archive.php
But when I’m looking at such pages, in Firebug they seem to be using ‘Default’ I can see the Aside tag inside the Row div. And I see a style coming from my Child Style where I wanted to control the spacing on a certain page, House Rules, .page-id-8 That page uses the Default template.
Why would my style marked .page-id-8 affect the style on a Post, p=103 for example.?
Is there a ‘global’ way to style posts to display the sidebar? I hope I don’t have to edit them one at a time.

February 13, 2014 at 8:49 am #4591I just got on your site, you are using 1.7.8 you need to update, but I also noticed you are using woocommerce 2.0.2 so you will need to update that also if you want to update the theme.
In the newer version the sidebar is narrower.

February 13, 2014 at 8:12 am #4579Which version of the theme are you using?
That sidebar file is not one that you should be editing, it carries a complicated class that helps run the theme wrapper for sidebars… If you are gonna edit a file it would be the one in the templates folder.

In forum: Virtue ThemeThanks for your reply regarding both right and left sidebars! It´s OK!
The furniture company (one person), want the productcatecory meny on the left sidebar, but I want them to have that info in the secondarymeny. I give it a try to persuade her to have it my way! Then the left sidebar can be used to other information!Sorry for you, but I have some more questions?!
1) Can I put widgets to a page/post?2) Secondary meny settings customise! I mean where I make the meny hierarchy. I can activate the css-classes/meta boxes and put some css above the description! I would like to have another font on the second “row”??!
Have a nice time!

– I have chosen Sidebar option for the homepage
– I picked primary sidebar from the menu
– In the widget screen I dragged couple of elements in the ‘primary sidebar’ box.But the homepage just ignores it…can anyone help?
Have a look > shop.vivilondra.it
