hey,
“It should make effect sitewide”. I think I will first test with a WAMP server on my PC. I would not have problem with my data base ! I will inform you later (after the Chrismas time…) of the results.
I am sorry to ask you questions which are probably outside the scope of this forum.
Thanks.
Gerard

December 22, 2015 at 11:45 pm #72692Hey,
Hey,
The theme doesn’t have any files outside of the wp-content folder. neither does it try to access any for an update.I promote using good security options, I’ve got most my wordpress installs using hardening techniques described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress
Still never came across a host that didn’t let you update wordpress. I wonder if your host has all the sites on a shared space so they have to lock it down more in case a bad user does something that would break other sites. Anyway I hope there updates fix it. It’s possible if you or your developer had access the files through ftp that some file or folder had it’s permissions changed.
Please let me know how it goes.
Ben

Here’s more information from my provider. The WP core files are not locked from me as a logged-in user, but are locked from anonymous user accounts, including the auto-update function of WordPress. This is done as a security measure. All the themes and plugins are in a special folder called wp-content, and they have allowed the anonymous account full access to that folder, “since that’s the ONLY place that a theme should be making changes. If your theme is trying to make changes anywhere else, then they’re violating WordPress design principles and what remaining minimal security protections there might be.” Me, I have no idea what files the update process was trying to get at, or whether they involved core WP files. But that’s why the updater does not have permission to change the WP files.
In any case, they are going to be making some other changes to my setup (which was done a certain way because we were building the new site while keeping a pre-existing site running), so we’ll see if that makes any difference in how the updates work.
Since these folks have had to deal with hacked WP sites, they are pretty sure that their reasons for keeping the WP core files locked are good reasons.

In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Woocommerce Shopping Cart
December 22, 2015 at 4:46 pm #72655Hey guys. The main reason I use Woocommerce is for their registration and login since I like it better than the default WordPress one. Anyways I dont have a shopping cart enable ín the theme options or any shop BUT for some reason when I do a speed test on my website this “wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments” keeps taking the longest to load…
This is whats inside the “wc-ajax=get_refreshed_fragments”
Is there any way I can remove that line of code competently since I dont use the shopping cart or the shop page at all?

December 22, 2015 at 4:31 pm #72645Hey,
I meant no offense to you about the hosting. I’m only trying to tell you that it’s not normal (and in my opinion clearly the issue) that you can’t update wordpress because of permissions, It’s also not normal that a server would say “They have seen some instances of themes not updating correctly–or updating , but not reporting it correctly”.Meaning that this isn’t the first time and it’s not directly related to this theme… and there solution for you to have a more reliable update would be to use ftp seems wrong to me.
I don’t mean to jab, don’t want to disrespect something, it’s me just trying to help you know that it’s really bad hosting support and really uncommon settings (again in my opinion).
I support lots and lots of people on lots and lots of servers. I’m just trying to inform you. Because I want to help you not because I’m trying to blame someone else.
On average each time I push a live update just for virtue there are about 10,000 people that update sites. Over that last three years with 4 themes it means a lot of updates on a lot of servers. I hope you understand that if there was an issue with the theme that crashed peoples sites this would be a very large problem. Since wordpress core handles the updater it’s not with the theme. Tt’s with the server configuration of the wordpress permissions and site.
I am the developer here at Kadence Themes.
I wish I could offer another option but I don’t know the ins and outs of your sever so I have to suggest either getting a different host or trying to contact your host again and see if they can give you an idea of what the issue might be with permissions. Maybe there is a way that you can have theme update you since they also update wordpress for you.
Of course FTP is totally an option I would strongly recommend against it. 🙂

I’m not sure that sniping at my hosting service is the most helpful approach. The service is sff.net (greyware automation) and they have been giving me superlative service for 20 years. They are the leading hosting service in the science fiction community, and they host many authors using WP sites. They are not novices at this. They maintain updates to the basic WP installation as a service to their customers. They suggested FTP as an alternative because the regular updating broke my web site, not because they recommended it as a general practice.
Just to clarify, are you a Kadence representative?

December 22, 2015 at 4:00 pm #72633Hey,
1. You don’t need to deactivate the whole thing just tell me what your using.2. I don’t understand what you did? What have you added? what does this mean “but this task is in the line” what task? You should not have two sites trying to load through one database your asking for issue by doing this.
3. I’m asking for what your testing on. The theme works fine on IE all versions check out the demo you can see. For me to track down why your settings are causing an error it’s best if I start knowing what your looking at.

December 22, 2015 at 3:39 pm #72631Even from Amsterdam I don’t see that kind of result: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/cv1RFZ/http://www.hfhoney.com/
Pingdom is one of the leaders in speed testing. DO you know where that site is testing from?
What caching plugin are you using? Are you gziping through php?

Hi Ben. My hosting service says I have all the necessary permissions. (I do not have permission to update WP itself; that’s something they do for me.) They have seen some instances of themes not updating correctly–or updating, but not reporting it correctly–and suggest that FTP might be a more reliable way to update my theme when needed.
I can do that, but don’t consider it an ideal option. It seems to me that a good installer should detect a problem during an update and, instead of breaking a site, leave it unchanged.
So, wondering if this is an issue with the Virtue installer. Maybe it doesn’t work so well on IIS servers?

HI,
Yes, I used W3 Cache. Actually I have deactivated some functions last time as per your advice, but now I have deactivated the plugin completely. let’s see how it works. BUt I have already noticed that the site donwloads less faster((((I disabled the AJAX – thanks.
On WP memory I did as per recommencations and now it says that my WP memory is 96. THanks for that. However, I noticed that now I can edit my site via admin, if only I use moscow-monopod.ru/wp-admin site. If I enter the mirror site: okgadget.ru/wp-admin it says following:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/gps-market/moscow-monopod.ru/docs/wp-config.php:1) in /home/gps-market/moscow-monopod.ru/docs/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1228
I remember you adviced me stop having 2 sites, but this task is in the line, after othhers more urgent are fixed. Is there any way to fix that warning now?
THe IE version is 11.0.9600. I know that is not the latest version, and I could update that. But it is not about me. My potential clients can have any version and I cannot control that, so would be great that any version of EI could work propoerly here. Is there anything I or you can do to fix that?
THanks
SashaOk, thanks.

Revolution slider on Microsoft Edge:
I would like to revisit this problem. I tried it again. And even if I wait for quite a while, the page does not load. And it does not appear to have anything to do with my computer. My sister tried to access the site this morning via Microsoft Edge and is also seeing text on a black screen. Because I don’t want people to have that experience I’ve temporarily witched the revolution slider movie to the slide show I created for mobile while this problem is resolved.
I really want to be able to play the movie on big screens. Any ideas on how to get this working?

December 22, 2015 at 12:46 pm #726001. What could be the problem? – are you using a caching plugin.
Go into your woocommerce > settings > products > display (uncheck “Enable AJAX add to cart buttons on archives”)
2. You need to define for the site not just the server. See here: https://docs.woothemes.com/document/increasing-the-wordpress-memory-limit/
No probably not the reason for cart not working.3. You still want the my-account page set up you can decide in your woocommerce settings if you want to allow guests to checkout.
What version of IE?
