    Hello Ben!

    I decided not to use woothemes and worked at customizing the home widget area with pagebuilder and created Virtue: Image Menu Items with links to my products.
    I used the visual editor as well to add a kadence slideshow and may even add a portfolio on the front page. This is acceptable but I was wondering what is the best method to frame the image menu items and also frame the slideshow.

    I looked everywhere in the dashboard and cannot remove a title called Featured News and a pale rectangle on the bottom of the home page just above the footer area.

    Here is the link to my website again: http://new.alarch-skylights.com/acrylic-dome-skylights/

    I was wondering if it came with the imported .css from the free version of Virtue which I had done according to instructions on your site. I’m not sure what to remove if this is the case.

    Hey,
    Just so you know there is a search option you can add in the header.
    As for adding a custom widget area you would have to do this through a child theme.

    Do you have a sticky header? How do you want this to interact with the transparent header options?

    #67556

    How to create custom widget area below the header. We need to enable the search bar

    Thanks

    #67449

    Hey,
    You can add this css to make the widget area width 100%

    .kad-header-widget {
        width: 100%;
    }

    The issue is at screen size say 800. Your hype item is still at 912. are you planning to add a break that makes it work from 912 to 703 when the mobile appears?

    Hey Michael,
    Try using a shortcode like this:
    [carousel type="cat-products" cat="apparel" items="8" columns="4"]
    Then you can just paste that into a visual editor widget within the home widget area and enable it in the homepage layout manager from Theme Options > Home Layout. Does that work for you?

    Hey,
    So there actually isn’t a built in option to display a specific product category in the homepage. What you can do is use a shortcode like this:
    [product_category category="services" per_page="12" columns="4"] and paste it into a visual editor widget within the home widget area from Appearance > Widgets. Then in Theme Options > Home Layout make sure you enable Home Widget Area.
    Hope that works for you!

    Hi! I am still working out how to use your great theme. I do not have woocommerce plugin turned on since the website products listed will not show the prices online.

    Our main menu is located on the secondary navigation area, and some links are on the topbar as well. I do not find the primary or sidebar locations suitable for the five product categories that I would like to show on the home page- as thumbnails with title. I would like the 5 item categories to be either flush left down one column with our gallery slideshow on the right. Or I would like to try the 5 item categories below the main menu and above the gallery slideshow. Then we will decide what works out best.

    What code is available for this? Is it better to use woothemes plugin? The problem with sidebars is that they remain visible even when clicking on say about pages or contact.

    Note: The 5 categories will need to have a grand-child level for each- which I may try designing as portfolio pages- not sure yet. At this grandchild level we don’t want the 5 main category widgets or thumbnails to still be visible.

    Here is the link to the website:

    Well the theme options have ways for you to have a sticky header but you only want the menu… It’s not simple but this will do what you want. First in your appearance > widgets. add this javascript to a empty text widget that is placed in one of your footer widget areas.

    <script type="text/javascript">
    jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {
    var topOffest = $('body').hasClass('admin-bar') ? 32 : 0;
    $('#nav-main').sticky({topSpacing:topOffest});});
    </script>

    Second go to theme options > advanced styling and add all of this css to the custom css box:

    .sticky-wrapper > #nav-main ul.sf-menu {
        float: none;
        text-align: center;
    }
    .sticky-wrapper > #nav-main{
        padding: 10px 0;
    }
    .sticky-wrapper > #nav-main .sf-menu>li {
        display: inline-block;
        float: none;
    }
    .is-sticky #nav-main {
        margin: 0;
        background: #fff;
        width:1170px;
    }
    .headerclass > .container {
        width: 100%;
    }
    .kad-header-right {
        padding: 0;
    }
    .sticky-wrapper.is-sticky > #nav-main .sf-menu:before {
        content: '';
        height: 40px;
        overflow: hidden;
        position: absolute;
        float: left;
        display: block;
        margin-left: 20px;
        width: 150px;
        background: url('http://temp.mychoiceconnection.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/CC-LOGO-DarkGreyBlue-mcc.jpg') no-repeat center center;
        background-size: contain;
    }
    @media (max-width: 1200px){
    .is-sticky #nav-main {
        width:940px;
    }
    }
    @media (max-width: 768px) and (device-width: 768px) {
    .kad-header-right .sticky-wrapper {
     display:none !important;
    }

    NOTE you must copy this from the forums do not try and copy from an notification email.. It will not work.

    Hey,
    You have to add a “layout builder” into the home widget area. the point is creating a page builder environment because it’s there that you can set a row style and edit it.

    Once you have the layout builder in your home widget area and you open it you will then be able to add a call to action.

    Hello Hannah, thanks for the quick responds.
    It all makes sense to me what you are telling me, I added the Home Widget Area in home layout.
    After that I went to appearance and added a virtue: Call to action widget in the Home widget area.

    So far so good, the only thing is, where can I add a picture in that call to action widget, I do not see any option for that.
    (sorry I’m not an expert)

    could you give me some tips maybe ?

    Thanks!

    #66844

    Hey Michael,
    So the homepage in the demo is actually set up as a static page (settings > reading). Then in the created home page we used page builder to add a call to action widget to a row and set a background image for the row. Then enabled it on the homepage by enabling Page Content in the Homepage Layout Manager (theme options > home layout) See here- https://www.kadencewp.com/using-page-builder-virtue-premium/
    And also here- https://www.kadencewp.com/creating-a-home-page-with-virtue/
    Another option would be to use the Home Widget Area (Theme Options > Home Layout) and add a Layout Builder widget (from Appearance > Widgets) then add a call to action widget within that widget.
    Hope that makes sense! Let me know if you need further help.

    Hey Vanessa,
    I think your best bet would be to use a shortcode. Something like this: [carousel type=featured-products columns=3 items=6 speed=9000 scroll=all cat=photos]
    You could just paste that into a visual editor widget using the home widget area. Does that do what you were thinking?

    HI Ben.

    I am using the Widget SiteOrigin Slider as the only Widget in the Header Widget Area.

    All Images are the same size. Inspecting the all of the Elements shows “width=215 height=180”. They are all the same size.

    WP-Super Cache is disabled.

    I updated the Widget SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle yesterday to Version 1.5.2 without relief. This issue has existed for two Versions now.

    Am I missing something? It is very distracting trying to read on my site when the Blog keeps moving around.

    Thanks!

    Are you using a sticky header?

    If so you need to offset by the height of the header. You can use a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/page-scroll-to-id/

    Or some custom javascript added in a text widget into your footer widget area.

    <script type="text/javascript">jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {$('#nav-main').localScroll({offset: 80});});</script>

    That is assuming you have the link in your main menu and your header is 80px tall.

    Hi Ben,

    Thanks but it does not seem to have any effect.

    I added the text in the footer area using Appearance>Widgets. There are two columns, in the first column there was already a text box with some script. I wanted to paste the code here but then I’m not allowed to place the post.

    I added a text box to the second column with the text you gave me but without any result. Are the scripts maybe interfering?

    Hey Danny,
    Are you using the home widget area? I would suggest using the Layout Builder widget and adding the call to action widget to a row within layout builder. Then you can set the background of the row. Does that make sense?

    Hey,
    Switching to three column is probably your best bet. The content disappears because you have to set the widgets from inactive into the correct widget areas after you change the layout in the theme options.

    Hi there
    In the logo area I have company name written in text on the left, and wanted a widget over on the opposite (right) margin with a telephone number. These look fine right aligned when viewed from a desktop, though it goes all out of sync when viewed from a mobile as really it should be centred for a mobile, though obviously if I change the align to centre it doesn’t look right when viewed from a desktop. Any suggestions to cover both desktop and mobile viewing?

    #65689

    I am finding that images that all display at the same size are different sizes.

    Here are four images and the sizes that do not cause the desktop to display are to change size:

    1. 245px x 140px
    2. 111px x 84px
    3. 165px x 116px
    4. 84px x 84px

    I start out with all images 84px v 84px. Then I have to experiment resizing them to see if they make the widget area change height. No two of them are alike. It is a lot of trial and error.

    Should I be using a different widget?

    Any guidance you might provide will be greatly appreciated.
