adding pdf

This seems like it should be simple but I cannot get it to work like I think so maybe I’m missing a piece.
I’m trying to add a clickable link to a pdf file on a product page.
A printable gift certificate.
I uploaded the file with the media up load
it’s at http://my website /wp-content/uploads/2015/06/gift_cert_family.pdf
When I click on the link-nothing happens or I get a blank page.
I tried to add media on the product page – I tried adding a link to the above address –
I know this is a wordpress issue but appreciate if you could point me in right direction.
Do I need some plug in? am I uploading wrong?
