Blog shortcode issue

Hi there,
I’m using this shortcode:
[blog_posts items=”3″ type=”grid” word_count=”10″ excerpt=”false” orderby=”date”]
to feature the blogs on this page: *Login to see link
I would like the excerpt much shorter. When I change this to any number nothing happens. Thoughts on how to fix this?
