Can I add script to without pro version?

Hi,
I wonder if I can add script to the Theme editor in php file without needing to purchase the pro version? I read many places buying pro will make it easier to add script to the head/footer. But if I can access the theme editor, and just add it in php file, wouldnt that be good enough?
