Change Header logo size?

When I upload my logo it automatically stretches it to be bigger than what I am uploading. I want the logo to stay smaller so the header is slim and the menu hover effect takes up the whole header, similar to the Virtue theme style 4 page except instead of just text for the company name/logo I want my smaller logo.
Am I missing something here in the customizing or is this something that needs to be addressed in the code.
