Changing Portfolio Permalink Base

For all of my portfolio items, I would like to change the “portfolio” slug name to “projects”. I’ve gathered that I can do this by going to Theme Options – Portfolio Options and changing the Portfolio Permalink Base. However, I know there is then a second step of changing the Permalinks in Settings, but I can’t find instructions on what exactly I need to change on this screen to make this work.
Also, because I already have a “Projects” page, will changing the permalink to “projects” mess things up? Thank you!
