Changing style of "Out of Stock" Tag

When a product is “out of stock” the product featured image has a small red rectangle “Sold” in upper left corner of the image. The concept is perfect for our client’s site. However, they want the “Sold” to be larger, slightly transparent, and at a diagonal lower left to upper right. I’m not sure where to go to cause this to happen. Can you provide some direction? Thanks!
