Changing the link color

Hey all,
I know there is the basic styling theme options panel that lets me alter the “link” and “hover” effect color but how do I change link colors and hover effect separately – for each and every link on my site.
Sometimes the background image is really dark so I’d like to change the link color to something light and have it hover to a different “light” color, etc.
When I do it manually, by either changing the font color or by using the “LINK COLOR” text box on the row/window options, it loses the hover effect.
