Correct sidebar not being used for Pages or Posts

Let me preface this by saying that I seldom use sidebars, so perhaps I’m not understanding how this is supposed to work. I created a custom sidebar called Blog that simply displays a summary of Recent Posts. I’ve gone into Theme Options for both Page Settings and Blog Settings and set sidebar to On (this is working) and the sidebar to Blog. But when I create a new page or post, Default is displayed in the sidebar field and that’s what the page or post is created with. Shouldn’t this be getting set to Blog, my new custom sidebar? This is, of course, easy enough to override by simply selecting the correct sidebar, but I’m trying to minimize steps for my client when they eventually start creating posts. The really won’t be creating pages.
