Create background for text in home slider area

Hi guys, I’m wanting to create a colour (or white) background box behind the home page title and subtitle (my site tagline) in my home slider area. I have a fixed image, but it’s multiple colours so the text gets completely lost (particularly when scrolling or changing screen sizes dependent on device). What CSS can I add so these two text boxes don’t vanish into the background image? All my art and images are very bright, and I no longer want to have a dull-coloured image just for the sake of being able to read the site tagline. The same problem is happening with the primary menu as well, but I’m not so concerned about that because as soon as you scroll the white background appears behind that menu.
