crop portfolio images on home page

Hi there,
I have a page with a”Portfolio grid” template, on which the images are cropped to 300px height. This is working fine. However, if I try to set this page as start page, the cropping gets lost. Apparently, Virtue uses always the settings of the themes’ home menu. Is there a way to either enable cropping on the home page or to disable the virtue-styles for the home page and show the static page “as is”?
Any hints are appreciated!
