Custom front page template

Hi,

I would like to create my own template for my home page. I’m using virtue premium child theme, when I create a front-page.php file with my custom code nothing happens. I also tried to create the home page in the wordpress dashboard , picked the full-width template, tried to modify that template and still my custom code did not appear.

Any ideas?
