Featured image in portfolio galleries

Hi again,
When I set a featured image in a portfolio it is automatically adding itself as a full size image in the gallery – above the gallery thumnail images. Is there a way of setting a featured image without it appearing again in the gallery. In almost all cases the featured image is already included in the gallery. Ses example link below.
Perhaps I am missing something simple. Look forward to hearing from you
