Featured product settings

Hello,
I have noticed that the featured products on the home page do not get chosen in random. If I set it to show 5 products with 10 in the carousel, it always shows the same 5 first with the exact same order. I have about 20 items set for featured. Why doesn’t this randomize the products? How can I get it to do so?
