gallery vs posts vs list of images and links.

Hi Team,
A question about the best approach:
I am about to be presented with a list of 50 images and 50 external URLs plus access to the folder with them in. I need to set these up so that the images are displayed as a slideshow and if clicked on, take the user to the external site.
I wondered if you could share your thoughts as to the best way to prepare this?
1. If I use a gallery, I need to set each picture and link (and “open in new tab”) by hand.
2. I could set them as posts and have a slideshow (or carousel) run through the posts. But if I click on the image, I want to go to the external site and NOT to the post. Is that do-able?
3. Is there a “data-driven” way to read through the list, display the picture and set the link?
