Help with Breadcrumbs

Hi,
I’ve currently got my main shop menu set up so that customers can find the products they want either by browsing for the Artist/Brand or by looking in other categories. Each product is categorised to appear in both methods – for example this product here (*Login to see link can appear in either “Browse by Artist / Roger La Borde / Dawn Chorus A6 Journal” or “Cards & Stationary / Journals & Notebooks / Dawn Chorus A6 Journal”.
If I browse by artist, however, and come to the actual product the breadcrumbs show the other trail instead of the one that I actually followed. It’s fine if I go via the other trail though.
What I’d like is for the breadcrumbs to be specific to how I found the item in the first place, that is, if I go via the artist then the breadcrumbs show that trail and vice-versa. I think that would be a more-efficient way of navigation and locating the product that the customer wants.
Is there a way of doing this?
