Hero section with page title disappearing when editing with Elementor

I’m building a site using the free version of Elementor and Kadence theme. I have the page layout in the customizer set up to display a page title with an image behind it. The layout in Elementor is set to the theme. BUT…when I go to edit a page, the entire hero section with the page title and image disappears! This wasn’t happening before…I was able to create pages and edit them in Elementor with no issues. I’m not sure what’s changed; there was a recent update to Kadence but I’m pretty sure I edited pages without an issue after the update.
I disabled all plugins except Elementor, with no luck. I reverted back to the earliest backup I have (which was from a couple of days ago), and it still happens. I switched the theme to Twenty Twenty-One, and the page titles DO show up…so it seems to be a conflict between Kadence and Elementor.
Anything else I’m missing that I should troubleshoot?? I’m hoping it’s something simple that I just overlooked…
