limit post categories showing in recent posts

Hi
I’m not sure how I can control the categories populating in the recent posts at the bottom of a post page.
I have 2 post categories (news and events & ask an expert), but only want the news and events to appear under the post. I was able to control this on the home page post carousel by adding some script provided to me from siteorigin. But I don’t know where to add that same script for the recent posts.
