Main menu search is "jumping" under the menu strip

When I make the browser window narrower and narrower, the search icon jumps under the menu orange strip (it is white so it cannot be seen but it is there…),
even before the menu switches to the ‘mobile’ format.
It became more problematic when I added another menu item, and even in maximized window the search icon “jumped”.
1. Is it a configuration issue?
2. a. How do I define narrower spaces between menu items on the main menu?
b. Can I reduce the space between the title/logo section and the menu items?
