The home page in question is

The home page is defined as static, but we’d like to give it a bit of dynamism by having the Next Event announcement appear on it and change from time to time. I want the announcement to appear under the green heading “Next Event”.

There seem to be a dozen ways to do this. Whichever way, it must be very simple for users who know nothing about WordPress.

For blog entries I have created categories called “Blog”, “Events” and “Home”, on the simplistic idea that a blog entry will appear on the pages that have names the same as the blog category. Works for my pages named Blog and Events, but not for the home page.

I thought maybe the user creates a new blog entry, assigns it the category of “Home”, and this appears on the home page. Doesn’t work. If I redefine the home page as a blog, the picture and text disappear and we have only a blog posting.

At the moment we want only ONE blog entry to appear on the home page.

Can this be done? I’ve found various old entries in the forum that seem relevant but I’m unable to combine them into a solution. Sorry.

Thanks for your help.
