Mega sub-menu vertical order (down not across)

How can I change (1) the order of my mega sub-menu from across to down, and (2) eliminate extra spacing between sub-menus? In other words, I want:
A D
B E
C F
instead of the following (A has more list items causing gap)
A B
C
D E
F
