menu – css classes optional

Hello
I’m trying to figure out what and how to use the optional css class in my widget side menu. I would like to dress up the menu-and believe the css can do it but is there somewhere that shows what available and code to do it? Right now my menu is just all text without any differentiation – I’d like to add maybe line separator or bullets?
