Move slider up and overlay logo and topmenu on it

Hello,
I would like to move my slider up to fill the entire page and overlay my logo and topmenu on one line on it.

Ideally, I would like it to layout like this: *Login to see link
I see this is much more straightforward in the Pinnacle theme, but it seems its also possible within virtue.
Could you perhaps give me some advice to achieve this effect? Thank you.
