Hey Ben:
We are in the Industrial Chic Light Box business (Night Lights). I need to design a custom page in which the customer can design a night light. So we need to design a page that would facilitate this. We started by naming one of our menu buttons “Design-A-Night-Light.” My thoughts on design of this page are to get the customer to select:
1. a cover plate style: 1. Plexi, 2. Square with Horizontal cut out, 3. Round, 4. Square with vertical cut out.
2. A finish: Patina Green, Silvertone, Rust.
3. laste, a way for the customer to furnish artwork. (perhaps to allow a browse/upload function if possible)
Looking for an opinion here as I am not sure how flexible virtue is… I was thinking that the customer could land on our DESIGN-A-NIGHT LIGHT page and begin by selecting:
1. A front cover shape
2. Then a finish
3. Then upload a piece of art work, if possible.
then check out….
Perhaps there are other ways to achieve the same goals such as drop down menus on a product page:
For example:
I could “add a product” with a Square with horizontal cut out, A patina Green Finish, (have all this appear in the product photo (then have the customer upload the custom artwork).
Or I could ‘Add a product’ depict the ‘square with horizontal cut out’ in the product photo with a Silvertone finish. Then have drop down selectors on this product page allow the customer to choose an alternate Finish option and just as in the apparel market, if they hit the Patina Green button on the drop down menu the finish changes with a new photo depicting a Patina Green finish instead of the Silvertone. Make sense?
How would you approach this page design if it were your company?
Thanks for weighing in,
Mark
