Pinnacle blog style example blog content max width

Hello,
I am trying to setup my site so that it is similar to the blog style example that you have shown at *Login to see link I am having a difficult time determining how you set the max width of your content. It looks like the header and footer are full width but the main content is about 890px, recent posts 957px, and comments 940px. Can you please explain how this was achieved.
