Portfolio exclude portfolio types

How can I exclude a particular portfolio type from the portfolio grid page?
I have older work i want to move into an separate archive page, and so have created an ‘archive’ portfolio type for these items.
I have pinnacle running as a child theme so can edit the template files loop if need be.
