removing 'WordPress Theme by Kadence Themes' from my footer

Hi,
I have tried many different ways to remove the current footer text which includes credit to wordpress and kadence themes, however none of the techniques I have tried are working.
When I go through theme options> misc settings and edit the footer text, nothing changes on my website?
Was wondering if there is anyway to remove this text and personalise it with my own..?
(I dont mind making a child theme to do so, but I am not 100% confident in doing so, can anyone help? thanks)
help would be greatly appreciated?
