Shop Category images layout problem

Hi, the images for the categories in the shop I am building has gaps in the layout.There are 12 categories in rows of 4 but on the 3rd row is has 3 empty spaces then has 3 category images and a space on the last row. The shop is password protected as it is only for our operators not the general public.
Can anyone give me some advice as to how to fix this?
