Static Image in Portfolio Grid

Hi there,
On our portfolio page I have it set to a standard 3 column grid and all is working perfectly. The “problem” is that we have 20 items in our current portfolio so that leaves us with a blank slot in our last (7th) row. Is there a way to put in a static image in that spot, or any spot in the grid? And if so, can I link that image to another page other than a portfolio item?
I know this content is generated from the portfolio items so I am guessing this can’t be done but I have to ask since that blank space seems to bother some folks around here.
I’ve tried using a gallery instead of the portfolio grid but the plugin for custom gallery links no longer works with the newer WP.
