Theme crash – help for the non-technical

After the most recent update my site crashed, the following was on both the admin site and the website. I had my ISP activate another theme just so I could access the dashboard. What do I need to do? (I am not very technical so this actually means nothing to me)

I don’t want to loose any of the format or functionality of the site before the crash
