Theme options 500 server error

Hello,
We’ve been running this theme for about a year now without problems, however after the last updates weird things started to happen:
Editing pages gives either a blank 500 page or a page with the text rendered as white. I solved this by disabling the Page Builder plugin.
Now I discovered that all the theme options itself give a blank page, in multiple browsers. Http headers show 500 internal server error. It does that with and without the Site Builder plugin disabled.
I hope you can guide me towards a solution for this, because right now the site’s back end is basically broken.

Page Builder by Siteorigin v2.2.2
Wordpress 4.4.1
Virtue Premium theme 3.4.7
