Woocommerce checkout page freezing

I am just testing my shopping cart and found that it is not working properly. I have configured it to accept payment by Paypal and cheque, the shop and cart seems to be working perfectly right through to the point that you proceed checkout and fill out your payment address details but when you select to proceed to checkout via the paypal option, or the place order via the cheque option the screen freezes and the checkout process goes no further. (I tried 3 transactions with the same results)
However in the woocommerce control panel under orders these 3 transactions are displayed as processing and I just received two emails informing me that two of those orders have been cancelled.
Has anyone experienced this before.
